This pock of the earth was the Morenci copper mine at the southern end of the Coronado Trail (Arizona 191). This photo only captures a third of the destructive mountain moving efforts here.
The road would have been fantastic with 90 odd miles of superb mountain twistys ahead. Unfortunately we had to ride conservatively due to recent snow removal efforts that had left sand and gravel in many of the curves. Unknown to us at this time, we would later encounter some snow for ourselves...makes for exciting motorcycling.
